Democratic literacy is about the capacity to be heard, seen and recognized with respect as a legitimate human being and dignified member of society.
ESE:O is dedicated to achieving social change and strengthening civil society in the global South through democratic literacy: a series of skills involving linguistic literacy (reading, writing, information seeking and sharing, interpretation and evaluation), human rights, and critical thinking.
ESE:O views capacity building in democratic literacy as a way of promoting and strengthening human rights. In many societies, including the global South, many tend to be excluded and/ or erased from the ability to participate fully in the debates that concern their own lives and communities.
At ESE:O we are committed to building capacity in democratic literacy in the global South. Our workshops, materials and projects aim at promoting the production and dissemination of local voices and their knowledges.
ESE:O places democratic literacy at the center of its methodology which promotes awareness of diversity, rights, critical thinking and participation.
Our workshops, projects and materials aim at developing skills and competencies in writing (for academia, policy making, advocacy and the arts), critical thinking, social communication, accountability and adhering to international standards.
